Regardless, the reason my post has been delayed is that there is a new video by Lindsey Stirling up on YouTube.

In fact, it was only released two days ago!

I generally enjoy her music (with a few rare exceptions), and I enjoyed this one. One of the things I liked about the movie is the story it tells. For there is definitely a story being told.

It is also rather remarkable how in less than four minutes, the creators of this movie were able to make an entirely new universe.

In fact, this is a universe that it might be interesting to read some stories in.

I found something rather amusing today. It’s a Typewriter that writes in Comic Sans.

I found that rather amusing. Kindof like, “Hey, look! I’m a pretentious typewriter! BWAhahaha!”

So. Is it bad that I sort of want one? You know, especially to watch all the double-takes as people see that I have a typewriter, and then go “wait. Whaaaaa…?”

I discovered something when I was writing an email last night. Actually, two somethings. FOUR NEW SMILEYS! Represented in TWO WAYS!

Would that not be eight new smileys, then? If four can be represented two ways?

Nope. Four. Two of them are homonyms. (Does that even apply to smileys?)

They are “)” and “(“: The Blinking Smileys.

The trick is to determine whether it’s a blinking happy smiley, or a blinking sad smiley. Now your emails can become more challenging! ) <- See what I did there? )

Have you recently stopped to consider how weird language can be? A few random consonants and vowels, arranged in a particular order, connote a meaning. It is a constantly changing, growing, shrinking, mind-boggling structure.

Take, for instance, the word “meh”. It is not yet accepted by various spell-checkers. But it does bring to mind a meaning.

Or even “spell-checker”. I cannot imagine that this term existed before computers.

Your words and language are fascinating.

I had originally intended to provide another October themed post to you, or to at least update a Doctor Who idea. However, I got distracted by my surroundings. One of the slightly older news (but still somewhat relevant) internet “scandals” caught my attention, and I got sidetracked.

The existence of the scandal got me to thinking, however. Has anybody tried to study how political frameworks can be applied to the internet? After all, there are such ideas as “flame wars”, and there are definite subgroups on the Web. (One only needs to look to reddit, imgur, or even Twitter to see that this is the case.) And the scandal I was looking at (“GamerGate” for those of you masochistically minded and interested) also clearly demonstrates this.

Of course, there are not exactly any sort of genuine “resources” on the internet, and it is connected to the real world. Much of the scandal I spent time looking at was very connected to the real world- it is loosely related to the topic of making commodities in the real world. However, those commodities from the real world are for the online world- video games.

Since there are group dynamics, I would like to think that there are political aspects.

But how would one define them? There is a huge amount of data. How would one use it?

(I would apologize for this post not being particularly “fluffy”, were it not for the fact that I am still, at the core, discussing video games. By many metrics, that makes this topic fluffy.)

So, readers, do you have any thoughts on a metric or framework for understanding the politics of the internet?

Some Doctor Who Halloween Ideas – Angels

This day marks the fifteenth day of October. There are therefore only about 15 or so days left to do Halloween Decorating. I have some ideas for you that I have been unable to implement on my own, for various reasons…

First of all, I should let you know that I watched all of the newer seasons of Doctor Who over the summer, and I enjoyed them.

With that in mind, I came up with some ideas for how to rather creep out Whovians. Today, I’m going to focus on my…

Doctor Who Weeping Angels Decorating Idea. (*spoilers!*)

This one would be fairly subtle, but you could turn it as complicated as you would like. It is inspired by the episode “The Time of Angels.”

The bare minimum would be to hang lovely pictures of landscapes or cemeteries, frame them, and label one or more of them as “The Weeping Angel of (put in your location here)”. Fill in other information (such as sculptor, location, etc.) as desired.

If you wish to “step the game up”, you could do this one of several ways. The first way would be a bit more expensive, and/or time consuming. What you would do is have statues of angels “hiding” at various locations. If you know an engineer, you could try to step it up further and have the angels be animatronics. That seems like it would be a fair bit of work, however.

A different possibility would be to ask at least one guest (preferably as many as you hang pictures of) to dress as angels and arrive at your party early. Have them skulk around, and try to spook your other guests.

Even better would be to mix it up, and have both statues and Angel actors. And possibly periodically move the angel statues.

At the very least, it would make for some excellent photo opportunities for your guests.

Hi Fluffsters!

So recently, I was on YouTube. Which is highly unsurprising, since I frequently use it to listen to music. And then I realized how sad my poor little YouTube algorithm follower thingy must be. For, you see, I listen to a fairly wide variety of music these days, and watch some rather odd little movies. So my listening habits range all the way from about 10 seconds of the opening song of the opera Otello, to Rachmonanoff’s Variations on a Theme by Paginini, to Swing Dance Music of both the older and newer style, to broadway music, to craft tutorials, to political commentary (Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Vermin Supreme recently?)

So, I really feel kindof bad for my poor little algorithm follower. I mean, the little thing’s just following me around, looking at my history, and trying to keep one step ahead of me with his mad math skills.

Poor thing.
