Nicely done ragtime covers

Greetings, readers!

I recently encountered a rather remarkable set of music. A pianist took several “scary themes” from movies and converted them to ragtime. Although the latter two (“Jaws” and “Twilight Zone”) are not entirely believable as the originals, the first one is quite nice.

Enjoy.

A YouTube channel about Pasta

Greetings, readers!

I thought it might interest you to know that there is an entire YouTube channel devoted to Italian Grandmothers making pasta.

Some of the pastas are quite lovely. All of them look like far more work than I would have expected. For example, there is a type of ravioli that incorporates rather elaborate folding.

Enjoy.

Further Thoughts on Spoiler Types

Greetings, readers!

From my post yesterday about types of spoilers, it occurs to me that there is also the “author intent” to consider.

For example, if the author or creator is working on a particular type of “feel” the author is going for, and the desired emotional response. So, if the author is deliberately trying to evoke an emotion, at least as much as provide an intriguing story, then information about the emotional responses would constitute a spoiler.

Types of Spoilers

Greetings, readers!

As you are aware, there is a great deal of “spoilers” discussion pertaining to Avengers 3. I have even contributed to this discussion.

It occurs to me, however, that there may be some differences in opinion over what constitutes a spoiler, as there are potentially different types of spoilers.

The first, most obvious type pertains to specific plot points. The fact that Harry Potter finds out he is a wizard, for instance, might be a plot-point that could be spoiled.

A second type might pertain to mood. This type of spoiler would especially occur if the medium is attempting to surprise with an emotional mood. A story that starts as a comedy but turns into a tragedy, for instance, would likely be designed to evoke tears. The emotional mood might be spoiled if the consumer is aware there is a mood twist.

Rather late review of Thor 2

Greetings, readers!

I had been very delayed in watching Thor 2: The Dark World. However, I recently rectified the situation.

Overall, I rather enjoyed it. This is especially because of the existence of Loki; without that character, the movie would have fallen rather flat for me.

as it is, however, Loki’s mischief and one-liners helped bring life to an otherwise… scattered… movie.

The visual effects were also rather lovely.

I have yet to decide if the fact that the movie started with a scene quite reminiscent of Lord of the Rings was a positive or a negative contribution.

Regardless, I am pleased at having finally seen it.

Have a lovely day.

Why is Disney requesting we obey a villain?

Greetings, readers!

As you may be aware, the new Marvel Avengers movie (Infinity War) is now officially out in the United States.

In the time leading up to it, Marvel Studies (i.e., Disney) has been using the hashtag “#ThanosDemandsYourSilence” to encourage viewers to not share spoilers. However, based solely upon trailers, it appears that Thanos is the primary villain. It also appears that the Avengers are attempting to halt his evil ways. And yet, the Public Service video includes the various Avengers following Thanos’s plan.

I am not entirely sure about the mixed messages.

Have a lovely Day.

Even MORE with the Hamilton Polka!

Greetings, readers!

You may recall that a while ago, Weird Al released his “Alexander Hamilton Polka”.

And then there was a lip-sync battle and reactions and stuff!

Yes. Thank you for that contribution, Webmaster.

As I was saying, the Hamilton cast just recently uploaded a video of them lip-syncing with the polka.

Enjoy.

Aluminum Spheres

Greetings, readers!

I am not sure if you have seen the “aluminum sphere” challenges that have been going around. People have been taking aluminum foil and pounding them into spheres, and they are quite lovely.

Somebody decided to make it fairly scientific, and tested exactly how solid the aluminum spheres are.

Enjoy.

There is a list of state foods.

Greetings, readers!

I recently discovered a Wikipedia list of “state foods”. I believe these are foods that the state (from the USA) wants associated with them.

There are a few things I found particularly amusing. First, California’s state fruit is the Avocado. Second, Mississippi’s only state food listed is its cookie: the Butter Cookie. Similarly, Missouri only has a State Dessert of “ice cream cone”.

Texas, by contrast, has 11 categories. These categories include both “state pepper”, and “state native pepper.” (Emphasis added.)

If you are feeling particularly interested, it is worth exploring!

Enjoy.

VERY impressive Water Balloon footage

Greetings, readers!

I recently encountered some extraordinary video footage pertaining to water balloons: Somebody used a slow-motion capture setting to examine the physics.

Enjoy.
