Grammar Reminders

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

This is just a reminder that there are several confusing words that sound similar. So, here’s a list, with some definitions.

Your: The possessive form of You. So, if you own something. It’s used in second-person writing, but sometimes gets misused if people are being lazy when typing. (It does NOT mean “you are”.)

You’re: This is the one that means “you are”. There’s nothing possessive about it. Not actually sure why this one gets misused.

Yore: Older word. Meaning older things. Should seldom be used, and hopefully isn’t confused with “You’re” and “your” that much.

If it is, though… I suppose you could say it’s an old mistake.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Questionably Filled Glasses

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

So. You know the “glass half full/empty” analogy, and the classifications? (I.e., Optimist: Half full; Pessimist: Half empty).

Well, some add to that: Engineer: The cup is inefficiently designed.

(Or something. I’m not actually an engineer. In case you had any doubts about that…)

Anyway. That got me wondering: What would a truly “efficient” glass look like, then?

Like, clearly it would need to adjust size based on water. So, maybe it would have a glass rim (to help keep shape and let you not spill), and a baloon-ish base that expands with water, but is somehow not breakable?

Of course, given how expensive something like that might be to construct effectively, it really makes you wonder whether it’s actually any more efficient, when costs are considered.

But whatever.

What are your thoughts?

Thoughts on Foods for Thought

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

So, I’m building off of my question about food for thought, I realized there are a few nuances to the question that might not be obvious to start.

First, there’s the question of when would you not want brain working at full brainage.

Presumably, you would have wanted it for that previous sentence. Similarly, it presumably did not happen with your most recent sentence.

Meh, whatever.

As I was saying. There are times when you might not want full thinky things to think. Like, right before bed.

So, a warm glass of milk might not be the bestest of all possible ideas.

And next, there’s the consideration of whether you want an excuse for having a particular type of food, or whether you want most value. Like, if only super ridiculously sweetly fantastic sugar cookies with cream-cheese frosting yield my Full Thought Potential, then clearly I would need to have more of them more often.

On the other hand, something common like ice-berg lettuce would possibly increase the frequency of Brainage.

So, what are your thoughts?

…And Another Video

Hi!

So. Once again, I meant to actually write a post.

And then I found a video that indicates that Birds of Paradise are not only real birds (not just flowers), but also has a wild Bird of Paradise being delightfully obnoxious around a Naturalist. (The caption is something like “Sir David (Something) gets upstaged by a bird”.)/p>

Sound is worth it.

Also, isn’t the bird pretty? AND SO FLUFFY?!?!

(Not quite the sweetest of all birdsong, but lovely feathers!)

Have a lovely day!

I was totally not wanting to share a video, but this is TOO COOL.

Hi!

I had every intention of not sharing any videos this month. And then I came across some awesomeness on Facebook.

It’s like dominoes, but not.

Enjoy!

Food for Thought

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

So. This is just a random observation. “Food for thought” is a phrase, right?

I understand that to be the case, yes.

…That was actually supposed to be rhetorical.

Anyway. Yep. And in general, it’s supposed to be the “interesting questions” / whatevers that spin off more thoughts. Which is why it’s food for thought: You’re feeding your thoughts.

But there’s also food that helps you think better. (Like, you kinda need food in order to think. At least sometimes. And if you have a body. You know.)

So, new question: If you could make it so that a particular food always fuels your brain and could literally be “food for thought”, what food would you choose?

Happy Monday!

Food Thoughts

Hi!

So. As promised a couple days ago, I’m trying to try something new. In that post, I mentioned the idea about “making a food perfectly.” And it occurs to me that there are several things to consider. I’ll be looking at one of them right now.

The thing I’m wondering about is wasted cost. Like, you can probably learn to make inexpensive food turn out pretty well, pretty consistently. And if you don’t, then you’re not out much, right? But with really expensive foods, if you could guarantee it turning out perfectly, that would reduce wasted costs.

But on the other hand, it would be expensive to use the talent, if you only go for the expensive foods.

So, trade-offs.

I’m still not sure where I fall on that one. What about you?

Something New

Hi!

So, I’m thinking about doing something a bit new this year.

As you may have noticed, I’ve recently been defaulting to YouTube videos for posts, unless there’s something I actually want to write about. Well, I’m going to try to change that a bit.

…Oh dear.

What? I thought you might like the break.

… I am withholding actual judgment, but I am not currently hopeful.

Whatever.

Anyway. So, I’m currently thinking I might try to either come up with or answer Conversation Starter questions when I’m drawing a blank, rather than just defaulting to YouTube.

No idea how long that’ll go. But yeah.

For example, here’s a question: You can prepare / cook / whatever a food, every time you make it, but you need to buy the ingredients. (For example, suppose Pie Crust. Any time you make a pie crust, it turns out perfectly for whatever pie it is you’re trying to make. Or Prime Rib. Or, whatever.) What do you make?

Theoretically, I’ll be figuring out an answer at some point. And then probably another. And so on.

But what are your thoughts?

New Year’s Resolution Challenges

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

So, I’ve been thinking. In the category of “New Years”-y Things, it occurs to me that there are some definite challenges (some of which I find amusing) with a lot of the New Year’s Resolutions. Specifically ones that relate to health and stuff.

So, a Thing with New Year’s Eve is that parties tend to happen. And with parties (well, the fun ones) come lots of junk food. Ideally, enough that it doesn’t all disappear that night.

And yet, many “resolutions” deal with diets.

So, either you waste your delightful food from the night before, or you end up starting your resolution… by cheating on your resolution.

I guess my question is… why don’t we just give a week of transition before Resolutions “go into effect”?

What are your thoughts?

New Year’s Posts to Expect

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So. I have a lot of friends in their twenties. (I especially have a lot of friends in that age range on Facebook.) And with the New Year, I’ve found there are a few basic types of posts you can expect from this age range.

Engagement Announcements. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are apparently popular times for people to propose (and say yes), it makes sense that many will also announce the proposal by the end of the old year or the start of the new.

Baby Announcements. This is also similar to the engagement things, bu not for quite the same reasons. Rather, if anybody is expecting around this time, there’s a high chance they’ll wait until New Years to provide the announcement. Because, you know, new things can go with new things thematically. So, New Baby? New Announcement? New Year? PERFECT trio!

You can expect a lot of these.

Wedding and engagement Photos. Winter weddings are also somewhat popular. And so, lots of people seem to try to schedule weddings / engagement shoots / etc. around this time. Expect your Facebook timeline to be swamped with these photos.

Similarly, you can expect a lot of posts celebrating others’ engagements, weddings, or photos.

Politics posts. Note that these posts aren’t actually constrained to the 20s age range. Or the New Year’s time frame. They’ll just show up uninvited anyway.

Funny commentary to start the new year. These also aren’t constrained to the 20s group, but they’re likely to show up.

So, there you have it! Several categories of posts that are likely to flood your timeline today if you have friends in their 20s, and possibly for the next week, month, or entire year!

Happy 2018!
