Advantages of “questionable” socks

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

For those of you who don’t know, I love socks. Especially brightly colored extremely clashy socks.

(Yes, I was the one who slightly cried inside when my obnoxious semi-metallic rainbow toe-socks with 3d-puff-paint-smiley-faces developed hols that made them unwearable.)

And one of the reasons I really like socks, besides the fact that they’re bright and chipper, is that it makes everything you wear look intentional.

Are you wearing stripes with polka-dots? well, that’s typically bad.

However, if you throw on a pair of hot-pink knee-highs, suddenly it becomes a “fashion statement.” Yes, the fashion statement might still be clashing. But at least it looks intentional.

And this way, even if you’re not aware of what sort of fashion statement you’re (accidentally) making, it still looks like your own personal style. Because you’re just that cool.

So, have fun! Get some delightful socks! ENjoy your knee-highs!

And have a great Tuesday!

Comparing Thunderstorms in CA to MI– no comparison

Hiya, Fluffsters!

As I mentioned earlier, I am currently not in my normal location. I am instead in Michigan, for basically a summer camp. And as I’m writing this (last night, from when this thing is posted), there is currently a three hour sever Thunderstorm warning!!!

And this T-storm is fantastic. I love storms.

It kindof reminds me of when I was in Northern California this last January, and the weather sortof tried to have a “severe” thunderstorm.

The comparison is a bit hilarious.

(In part because there is no comparison.)

The storm that’s currently going on (as I’m writing this, not as you’re reading this) is a severe storm. By Michigan standards. That means there’s almost constant lightning flashes, the Thunder is gradually crashing louder as the center of the storm approaches, and the parking-lot turned into a river within about ten minutes.

In Northern California, by contrast…

Well, from what I recall, there were about two little bangs of thunder. I kid you not about the “bang”, too. The CA thunderstorm really was essentially like a cartoon “gag gun” in style comparison– you know, the one where when you try to fire it a flag comes out reading “bang” rather than really shooting anything.

And yes, there may have been some “river-y” ness. But that’s primarily because CA was so dry, any amount of rain would have turned anything into a river.

It’s really, really neat being back in a place with full-on, legitimate crashing thunderstorms.

Have a great Monday!

Secret Societies can be Fun!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

I don’t have much experience with this, but it seems to me as though worldbuilding a secret society into a fictional world (whether a book, movie, TV show, or any sort of fiction) should be a fun way of keeping stories going. After all, since they’re secret, you can have pretty much an unlimited number of secret societies. So, you destroy the first evil secret society? Scene-change to the second secret society that’s behind the first! And on!

And you can get away with it, because theoretically the society is secret. And if it’s secret, nobody knows it exists… until it is revealed.

Yup. They seem like a fun plot device.

Happy Sunday!

Awkward Situations — when are corrections worth it?

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So… I had a slightly awkward time last night. (Nothing serious.)

Ok, so, as I mentioned, I’m currently hyper-busy. I’m at a conference-y thing that’s really more like a summer camp, except they only randomly provide food.

This means that I’m responsible for my meals.

Well, the thingy is being held in a nice town with lots of food options. So I ended up deciding to go out for dinner tonight. Someone I met at the thing joined me.

We went to a fun place (“Noodles”!) that I went to on Monday. That was the fun part.

The awkward thing is that I apparently said something that falsely implied I’d never been there before. (Woops.)

So the guy was explaining things to me. And mentioned to the employees that it was “my first time” (it wasn’t.)

I never did end up correcting him… there were no advantages or disadvantages to being a first timer, so nobody got hurt…

What are your thoughts about situations like this?

Cutest Towns in PA — (and interesting names.)

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, there’s a list of “cute / beautiful towns in Pennsylvania” and I looked at it randomly. (Multiple friends on Facebook shared it.)

What I found interesting were some of the names. I mean, seriously. One of them is “Jim Thorpe.” That… has to have a story.

Or even the first one, “Lititz.” How does that name get formed?

I guess this is not specific to Pennsylvania, but is a more general “name thing”. But this provided yet another time to comment on it, so I took advantage of it.

Have a great day!

Pretty amazing figure skating

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, I was randomly looking up figure skating championship footage on YouTube, and encountered this lovely gem. (The first 5 minutes are the important ones. The fact that the commentators are Russian is actually a perk– they don’t speak during the performance!)

One of the things I love about this routine is the music chosen. I don’t exactly know why the composer decided to do this, but the “Dies Irae” plainchant theme (dies irae is “Day of judgement, day of wrath”) is the main recurring theme.

I really wonder about what story the composer was trying to tell.

Regardless, the figure skating was beautiful.

Happy Monday!

Why is it so hard to go to bed when you’re tired?

Hiya, Fluffsters!

I think I’ve ranted about this before, and I’m sure I’ll complain about it again, but… why is it so difficult to go to bed when you’re really tired?

For the past few nights, I’ve been pointlessly procrastinating for a while before going to bed, because I’m too tired to want to stop. Which is silly, because if I went to bed, I’d get less tired.

Hmpf.

So, that’s been my past few nights. How about you? Does that ever happen for you?
