Another FAIL Disney Fan Theory

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hiya, Fluffsters.

Somebody came up with a fan theory that supposedly connects Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” with “Aladdin”. The theory is that Belle’s book is referring to Aladdin. The theory was popular enough that it even made a “trending” tag on Facebook. And got a “distractify” article. And other attention.

They cite the lines “Far off places, daring swordfights, magic spells, and a prince in disguise!” and “Here’s where she meets Prince Charming, but she won’t discover that it’s him ’til chapter 3!” as evidence.

My response:

No.

That is PLAINLY false.

The entire point of Aladdin is that he’s in disguise as a prince. He is not a prince in disguise. I don’t think Aladdin ever qualifies as Prince Charming, actually. He never truly becomes a prince, because the Sultan decrees that Jasmine (and any princess) can marry whoever she pleases. Aladdin also wishes Genie free, instead of becoming a prince.

SO THE ENTIRE PREMISE IS WRONG.

Furthermore, it’s always been clear that the book Belle is reading actually has a lot more to do with her own story. She meets a legitimate Prince Charming who is (somewhat) in disguise, and doesn’t realize it until the third act. She’s basically reading her own story!

And if it has to refer to a different Disney Movie, then Sleeping Beauty works at least as well. It takes place in England. That’s relatively far off, compared to provincial France, where Belle is. (Ok, so it’s not as far as Aladdin. But it’s still a ways away.)

Concerning swordfights: The prince fights a dragon with a sword. If that doesn’t count as daring, I don’t know what does.

(As a friendly reminder, I don’t recall Aladdin actually doing much sword fighting, either. He wins by using his non-princely street-smarts.)

Next, “Sleeping Beauty” definitely has magic spells. The entire premise is built around magic spells.

Finally, and more to the point, it has a prince in disguise.

Prince Charming comes waltzing into her life, but she doesn’t realize who it is.

But, he is still a prince.

FROM THE BEGINNING.

And that is actually one of the plot-points of the movie. Unlike Aladdin, where the plot-point is still the reverse.

So, the fan theory does not work.

Any questions?

A Podcast is responsible for a re-trial…?

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, technology is fun. You see, there was an interesting Podcast that’s been going on for a while, apparently. It was investigating what may have been a mis-trial. It got a lot of attention. It’s called “Serial.”

Anyway, much to my surprise, I found out that it’s actually real. I thought it was all scripted and stuff. Turns out, it wasn’t.

And now, because of it, the case that was investigated in the show is going to trial again.

Interesting time we live in, isn’t it?

Funny music battle from a few years ago (pt 3)

Hiya, Fluffsters!

As you may recall from Yesterday’s post (and the post from the day before), there was a rather well done YouTube music “battle” done a few years ago.

Yesterday’s post was the first of the weirdly absurd instruments.

The two competitions afterwords were not as spectacularly bizarre. (There was an Ocarina response, and a Zither response.)

The last two, however, well…

Here they are.

They are masterful.

I mean, seriously. That one was played with cellphones.

And not even smart-phone app technology.

And this next one… Well, part of the reason I’m sharing it today is in honor of who’s singing the National Anthem at the Superbowl.

And… I’ll just leave it at that, and get onto the video.

I mean, seriously.

So, yeah. I think there’s probably a bit of modulation that happened with that video. Maybe. I’m not sure how else the higher notes would have come out.

But isn’t that really well done?

And terrible? (In an epic way?)

Alas, there has been no response. But on the other hand, I’m not sure how anyone would respond, so it’s not too surprising.

Yup.

Anyway, have a lovely day!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

I’m continuing today’s post. And this is where it starts to get… weird.

In response to the Glockenspiel, the original challenge-video-poster plays Moonlight Sonata on… Crockenspiel.

The subsequent reply is then played… on the Gameboy. I kid you not. Check it out, it’s pretty fantastic.

And it gets better.

But that’s for tomorrow.

Have a lovely day!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, I recently became aware of the existence of a music battle that gets progressively sillier. It starts off with some pop song on Recorder. (Not too silly.)

The response then goes to a Glockenspiel.

Again, this isn’t too crazy. It’s in the next video that things start getting… weird.

But that’s for tomorrow. Have a lovely day!

Why have I been getting a Spanish Toothpaste Ad?

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, this has happened a few times now. I’ve been looking at YouTube videos, (generally for music), and I’ve gotten a toothpaste commercial. As if that’s not weird enough, the commercial is in Spanish.

I don’t understand it…

Any thoughts?

A donut shop too few know about

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, I’ve been to San Diego (CA, in case you were wondering) a few times. More to the point, my parents spent a fair bit of time in San Diego. And there is a donut shop there. It is one of the best donut shops around, but few people I talk to (even when I’m in California!) have even heard of it. So, I’m telling you a bit about it.

The place is called VG Donut.

I personally think the “VG” stands for “very good.” Because they are. Actually, no. They are more than that. They are excellent. Especially their Buttermilk Bars. Those things are to die from. I don’t remember if I prefer the glazed or the plain, but you basically cannot go wrong with them. They are fantastic. Seriously. I cannot say enough good things about those donuts!

So, there you go. I now feel better, having told the internet about this place.

If you go near San Diego, be sure to look them up!

A Saturday Night Live skit launched a Twitter Account

Hiya, Fluffsters!

So, about a week or two ago, there was a Saturday Night Live skit with the actor who played Kylo Ren in the new Star Wars movie. It was a parody of “Undercover Boss” (a TV show where bosses go undercover to see what life is “really like.”) So, basically, Kylo Ren goes undercover as “Matt, the radar technician”, to see what work-life is really like on Starkiller Base.

Yes, there are some cringe-worthy moments in that video. But, the entire thing has sparked another Twitter account: Matt the Radar Technician.

Whoever’s posting is doing a great job of tweeting from the character of “Matt, the radar technician.” It’s woth following, if you’re on Twitter.

Have a lovely Sunday!

So. Three years…

Hiya, Fluffsters!

Today marks Total Fluff’s THIRD BIRTHDAY! YAY!

In honor of that, here’s a list of some of the things that have happened this year, and some of my favorite posts. (There’s going to be either a favorite post from a month, or an “event” from the month.)

Starting backwards: I’m still fairly pleased with my post about cups from yesterday. It’s the first time I’ve done a list this year, I think. So, yeah. I’m happy with it.

From December, I rather like the “dirt cheap” post. (The question still stands, by the way…)

I should probably include one of Fluffy’s posts. So, her thoughts about music can qualify for November’s post.

(Ok, fine. And a bonus one, because I can’t resist once more showing off my picture of California Fall Foliage…)

October saw the 1000th Fluff Post!

October also was the month of the 999th fluff post. I am rather pleased with my contribution to that post, so I am including it. Hopefully the Webmaster does not notice this being slipped in.

Yes, this is a bit more self-centered of me than usual, but I had a really weird dream in September. And it’s the closest thing I could find to semi-reasonable original content for the month. So, yep.

August’s “Important Post” can happen once in a blue moon

July, I (again) commented on the challenges of getting to bed.

June, I actually wrote a short story!

May, I wrote a post that is a bit weird to go back to. It’s about, I kid you not, wall textures.

We have definitive proof, readers: The Webmaster confuses herself on occasion.

I finally “broke” in April, and let out a rant about a misinterpretation of a Disney movie (and a meme associated with it) that I’d been stewing on for a while

The important post from March is the Pi Day one. (I’m definitely letting Fluffy take the March one.) Last year, you may recall, was the Most ePIc Pi Day In My Life (in all probability.) So, of course that post gets featured for March.

On a somewhat depressing note (given the time of year), Fluffy shared a slightly bizarre question about spring and winter in February.

And… that takes us back to The Second Birthday!

I hope you have a lovely day.

A post about cups.

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hiya, Fluffsters!

I’m in a totally random mood as I’m writing this. And for some reason, I decided that I wanted to write a post about cups. I have no clue where this is going, so, yeah. Here ‘goes!

Oh dear.

So, yeah. Cups. Here are some fun things about cups.

  1. It’s a fun word to say. I mean, even just to think it. Cups. You basically need to use two syllables. I think it’s technically a single-syllable word. But, just try saying it. It’s clearly two. (I think it’s the “ps” combination that really does it.)
  2. They’re one of the few dining items that can be turned into something you do with your hands. You can cup your hands. However, you really can’t fork your hands. Or bowl them. (You can cup them into a bowl, though, which is also cool!)
  3. So, that means that Cups are also able to transform. If you can cup things into a bowl, that’s pretty fantastic.
  4. They come in lots of styles. Some of them are even elongated, thus meaning that they can come in “wide varieties.”

…You did not just do that.

But I did! Really, Fluffy, weren’t you watching?

Anyway. Continuing…

  • Even though they sound the same, “Cups” and “Couples” have very little to do with each other. At least, to an extent. Sometimes you do have couples and cups with each other, and sometimes even couples’ cups. But they’re not necessarily linked.
  • There’s a fantastic song with cups, especially when it’s done in Irish.

So, yep.

I think this qualifies as a post about cups.

Have a lovely day!
