Rhythmic Songs and Games and Stuff

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters!

Can you believe we’ve been in 2014 for a week now? And I think I’ve yet to actually write the correct year on anything. Woops.

But enough about me. I have some video (and comments) for your daily procrastination does!

One of my favorite things when I was younger, which I still enjoy, are rhythm games.

For example, I’m sure you’re aware of “The Cup Song.” It’s a cutesy little song over a fun rhythm game that you can do with a cup. Here’s a video, in case you haven’t seen it yet.

Yes, that one. It’s not bad. However, I raise you by Gaelic.

…What? Can you do that?

I most certainly can. For, you see, I have found a version in Gaelic, I believe. It is also fairly impressive. In fact, I’d say more impressive than the original.

Ok. Even if your intro didn’t make any sense, I guess that is pretty cool. Possibly even cooler than the one I found.

Well, yes. That’s why I shared it, Webmaster…

Oh, so this has turned into a competition, has it?

Well, then. As another alternative game, I found a slightly more challenging one. You see, it’s got multiple patterns, and tosses thrown in. And it’s played with two stick-ish things, instead of a single cup.

Oh, yes. I remember seeing that one a while ago. That is definitely cooler than the Cup Song, in terms of difficulty. Possibly even than the Celtic version I found.

Why, Thank yo-

-But there’s also the video from the Polynesian Cultural Center, which has a slightly different tune, but some even cooler patterns.

… I’m not going to win this one, am I?

Not likely.

Hmpf. Well, Happy Wednesday, Readers! I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.

Another Podcast: Cows

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters!

A reader submitted something yesterday, and it is amazing. It’s one of my favorite actors talking about cows. On a podcast.

Who is this actor, you ask?

Actually, yes. I’m not on any podcasts I’m aware of. So I honestly have no idea who you’re talking about.

Patrick Stewart. From Star Trek, Next Generation. And a variety of other things. But most recently, he is the best demonstrator of the different accents of British Cows.

If you have not listened to this yet, stop what you are doing and go there. Now. Seriously.

Ok, now that you’re back… Do you have any interesting things you want to share, to go on this blog? Just email me at webmaster [at] totalfluff.com.

I hope to hear from you! Have a happy Tuesday!

Happy (belated) Epiphany!

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Monday.

So. Something slightly odd happened in Church yesterday morning. We were celebrating Epiphany, which is the day we commemorate the wise men bringing gifts to Jesus. That’s not the odd part.

Wait. Fluffy didn’t interject with a “how odd.”

If I did that every time, I’d become predictable.

I guess that makes sense.

But as I was saying. The odd part was what happened when we sang “The First Noel.” (It’s a classic Christmas carol, but it talks about the wisemen. So therefore it’s epiphany.) You see, I started actually thinking about what the words were saying in verse three:

And by the light of that same star, Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a king was there intent, And to follow that star wherever it went.

As you may have gathered by my emphasis, the last part before the chorus really stood out to me. I had this image of the wise men / three kings following the star to wherever it was.

To seek for a king was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went wise men.

The wise men 3 follow the star wherever it WENT… including Space.

…Hold on.

Yes?

You drew a picture of “wise men three” with individual rocket packs? In space?

I understand that the physics probably doesn’t(? Don’t?) work. But the song does say that they followed wherever it went.

You have a very odd perspective.

Thank you, I think.

Well, Fluffsters, happy Monday! To any of you starting classes, I hope they all go well! And I hope to continue to provide you with a daily dose of procrastination stress relief! I hope you have an excellent week.

Secret Dungeon, anyone?

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters.

I have decided, my life does not have nearly enough secret dungeons in it.

…Huh? Are you wanting to be locked up in some castle somewhere for breaking a law you didn’t know existed?

Uh, not really…

Oh. That’s how we get more secret dungeons into our lives back home.

Ok, that sounds a bit freaky. But, no. That’s not what I was thinking.

I was just thinking about some guy who found a secret dungeon under his apartment

Ok. That’s a lot safer.

And a lot more in character.

Well, since I think I probably don’t want to know what Fluffy meant by that last sentence, I’m just going to wish you all a happy January 5. And a happy Sunday. So, happy January 5th, and happy Sunday!

Doodling Rant

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters!

So, I’m a bit annoyed. I cannot find the perfect medium.

Have you tried going for a perfect small or large instead?

…What? Oh. No. Medium, not medium.

I hope that wasn’t supposed to make sense. Because it doesn’t.

Huh. I guess it doesn’t work as well when typing.

What I was trying to say is that I can’t find the perfect thing to use for my doodlings.

Oh, artistic medium!

So, you’re ranting because you can’t doodle as well as you’d like?

Yeah. You see, I doodle a lot better with pencil and paper than I do with tablet computer and photoshop. But photoshop has layers. And layers are Ah. Maze. Ing.

Layers… Like onions have layers?

Actually, sortof yes.

Photoshop layers are wonderful. Basically, they’re a way of putting stuff on top of a previously drawn / designed thing, and not losing that picture.

Think of it as paper dolls. You can create the separate clothes, and put them on top of the doll. The doll is there, but so’s the dress. Layers are like that, except it has to do with the drawing itself. And it can be a lot more fine-tuned.

Ok. So your problem is…?

I’m a lot more precise with pencil and paper.

Seriously.

I just doodled this while I was procrastinating from other writing I’m supposedly doing.

Female Human Head Pencil Doodle the Webmaster Did.

This is actually much larger than the doodle itself.

I could never get that kind of precision on Photoshop.

But with pencil and paper, when I erase something, it doesn’t show a previous layer. It shows the paper.

So, let me get this straight… You’re ranting because a doodle you were making while procrastinating wasn’t as high tech as you wanted.

That’s not phrased as a question…

Right. I’m stating a fact. That is what you’re doing, after all.

Huh. I guess it is.

Well, it’s still rantworthy!

Clearly some think so, since you just ranted about it.

Exactly.

So, happy Saturday, Fluffsters!

Proof that pizza is cake.

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Thursday!

The other day, I was talking with someone.

Really? How odd!

Hush.

But yes. That person made a mistake. She thought that pizza isn’t cake.

…What?

I know! Isn’t it crazy?

No. What I meant was, what on Earth do you mean that pizza is cake?

Oh, no. Not you too.

Well, I guess I should quickly explain.

You see, Pizza is also pizza-pie. Pizza-pie can be abbreviated to pie. Pie’s are things that have crusts and a filling, and therefore cheesecake is a pie. Cheesecake (which is pie) can also be abbreviated to cake. So therefore, pie is cake, and therefore pizza is cake. QED.

…That’s just wrong on so many levels.

That my friend didn’t buy in? I completely agree.

But anyways, Fluffsters, I hope you have a great beginning of your year, and a wonderful end of your week. Smile, it’s almost the weekend!

Welcome, 2014! [Here are some resolutions few will keep.]

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! HAPPY 2014!!

So, as I’m sure you’re all aware, people traditionally make “New Year’s Resolutions.” These are things that we promise ourselves will go better, or will change, for the upcoming year. Now, I’ve already (mostly) decided upon mine, but I’m here to help you out! For you see, in honor of today, I have selected some common things to make a list of:

New Year’s Resolutions.

1) Lose weight. After all, the purpose should be a number on the scale, not improving at the activities you enjoy, right? This is quite a common one, and I would be completely irresponsible if I didn’t mention it.

2) Live life to the fullest. Ok. So, I think this is another common one. That’s why it’s here!

But what does it even mean? How is that possible?

You know, I have no idea.

…So, New Year’s Resolutions don’t need to be attainable?

Of course not! They’re just supposed to inspire you to do better, or something. Alright, so some of them are possible to achieve. But not all of them.

So, just to clarify, quantifiability is not a requirement?

…Uh, I don’t think so.

Huh. In that case:

3) Fly to the moon. That would certainly provide stories. Barring the actual flight ability, you can at least work towards that goal.

I don’t think that’s how it should work.

I thought you said it could be anything?

Well, “could” and “should” are two completely different things.

5) draw better. That’s a better one. You know, working on improving a particular area of your life. That’s a more typical way, and a better example of how resolutions should work.

Oh. So,

4) Be kinder when pointing out others’ mistakes would qualify?

Um. I think so. Why do I feel like you’re referencing something?

You mean the fact that you completely skipped four, until I put it in without comment?

Until now…

Uh, yeah. I think that works.

Well, that’s enough for right now. Do you have any brilliant resolution ideas, Fluffsters? Or any resolutions you’re planning on fulfilling?

Happy Last Day of 2013!

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy December 31!

And December 31 is important because…?

It’s important because it marks the last day in the calendar year for us.

Ah. You mean you’re celebrating a last phase made arbitrarily discrete, in what would otherwise be a continuous function?

…Huh?

Never mind.

If you insist.

But as I was saying. It’s the last day of 2013. A lot has happened this year, hasn’t it?

Such as…?

Well, I did first meet you and start this blog this year.

Oh, right. I forgot you’ve been annoying me that briefly.

Yeah, whatever.

So, I started this blog. I met you, Fluffy. I also started to learn how to spin, read some wonderful books, started painting banners, made a clay hippocampus (the mythological animal type), met Pip & Squeak (who is still missing *sadface*) and did so much more. I’m actually sad this year is practically over!

But, I’m looking forward to what next year will bring. I’m not entirely sure what it will bring, since there are definitely a few things up in the air for me right now, but I’m sure it will be good.

I’m especially looking forward to seeing what sort of Fluff I’ll be able to mention on this blog. After all, as life goes on, it’s going to bring more fluff and nonsense. That’s almost as guaranteed as death and taxes, don’t you agree?

Well, I hope you enjoy the rest of the year! See you (sort of) in 2014! HAPPY NEW YEAR! (almost.)

Book Review: Ready Player One

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Monday!

Huh. It’s the last Monday of 2013. Odd, isn’t it? But that’s not important.

What is important is that I just finished another book. A book that I’m going to write a review on, for your reading pleasure!

Or lack thereof…

Hush. It’s not as though I’m forcing you to read my posts… But yeah.

Book Review: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Non-Spoiler Section

I really enjoyed this book. It’s written from the first-person perspective, is about 370 pages long, and is quite gripping. Even if it might take a chapter or two to set up the setting and plot. I think I would give it about a 9/10. (Ten being OMG BEST BOOK EVAH!1! of course. And 1, by extension, being BLECH! THAT’S HORRIBLEFYING!)

…”Horriblefying”?

…You already knew I invent words.

Still, “horriblefying” seems like a much more egregious word-crime than a non-word like “fluffster”.

At least it gets my point across, which is the purpose of language? True?

…I think I shall refrain from answering that particular question.

I shall therefore declare victory, and continue to the next section:

Spoiler Alert! Plot & Premise & Summary & Such.

This book is set in the year 2044, in a post-apocalyptic Earth era. What makes this particular plot unique, however, is the means of “escape” from real life. There is a virtual reality system, OASIS, which is completely immersive. It’s free to access. And it’s huge.

However, the creator of this system (who of course got a huge fortune from it by selling stuff in-game, or something like that) has created an Easter Egg for people to find after he died. The first person to find his Easter Egg will receive his entire fortune, and a controlling portion of his company.

Needless to say, this is a major competition.

The story starts abut 5 years after the competition is announced. (The competition was announced upon the inventor’s death. Just in case that wasn’t clear.) Our hero goes through and tries to solve the clues that lead to the Easter Egg. Throughout the plot, he also needs to deal with friends, potential romances, and evil corporations out to kill him. I’m not going to provide more info about the plot than that. If you really want spoilers, you can probably go to wikipedia. I’m not sure, but I’m guessing they have info. You should really read the book, though.

Fun Things

One of the great parts of this book is the references. The inventor of the game was really into 1980s Geeky stuff. The main character, therefore, studies that piece of American history. There are references to all sorts of things from the 1980s. Star Wars, Monty Python, Last Starfighter, Star Trek… you name it, it’s probably there.

Another of the best parts of this book is the setting. OASIS makes me very technology-jealous. Seriously. It’s a virtual reality where, depending on how much participants can afford, all the senses can be immersed. The main character, for example, eventually gets to the point of getting a “hamster-ball” like system for moving around- he actually walks. Further, the graphics are apparently amazing, and, one of the best parts, there are touch sensors on a suit he can wear. The gloves that have touch sensors & emulators are a part of every kit- the players can actually feel items they interact with.

And, of course, the players can get cool items, including magic swords.

Downsides (end spoilers)

Basically, the only downsides are a couple of “not quite pg or pg-13 language” moments. In other words, there’s a touch of fowl language, and a few references. It’s nowhere near as bad as a lot of fiction- even some supposedly “young adult” fiction I’ve read recently. *cough*Graceling*cough*

If language doesn’t bother you, don’t worry about it. If it does, you might enjoy it less, but I’d still highly recommend giving it a try. It’s a lot tamer than any high school I’m aware of.

Concluding Remarks

As I said before, I really enjoyed the book. I definitely wish that the technology described actually existed- it sounds pretty darn cool. It’s also fun he number of references there were! I know I didn’t get them all, but any that I did get just added to the story. (It’s still a fun story without understanding the references.)

In other words, I highly recommend this book.

Enjoy the rest of 2013!

Old Animation I Made

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Saturday!

Do you know something? I love having this blog. It gives me the opportunity to procrastinate search for viable material for the daily post. That means that I have the opportunity to go back through all my old pictures and stuffs, and it’s because I’m looking for material for my posts!

For example, there was a period of my life a few years ago when I was really into simple animations. As in, hand-drawn animated gifs. I just found an old ninja pic I made!

An animated ninja. He pops up to say hello!

Ninja I animated a while ago

(If you can see him, you might want to refresh the page. Or click the picture, and then press ctrl + f5 for a complete refresh. Once he comes up on the screen, he likes to stay there. A lot.)

Clearly he’s not the best ninja of all time, since he’s sortof, like, visible. But isn’t he still really cute?

But what about you, fluffsters? Did you have any favorite activities when you were younger? I’d love to read about it in the comment section below!

Have a wonderful Saturday!
